The East Gulf Coastal Plain Joint Venture is leading an effort with multiple partners to develop “Desired Forest Conditions” (DFCs) for Southern Pine ecosystems. Their purpose is to provide technical recommendations for land managers undertaking fire-maintained, pine-grassland systems. Although longleaf pine restoration is a primary focus in this region, these DFCs will also incorporate the consideration of other southern pine species given their prevalence across the coastal plain landscape.
